The IPL commenced its twelfth season in 2019 (also known as IPL 12). Because of the Indian general elections, organizers considered hosting the event in other countries, but ultimately, they held the tournament only in India, and the season began on March 23, 2019.
Following the Lodha Committee’s suggestion, the BCCI directed its officials to maintain a 15-day compulsory gap between the conclusion of the IPL and the next international match of India, which led to officials rescheduling India’s first match in the 2019 Cricket World Cup from June 2 to June 5, 2019.
On 4 December 2018, the franchise revealed that they would rename the Delhi Daredevils as the Delhi Capitals. They also released a new logo. The Chennai Super Kings, as the defending champions, won their third title.
Mumbai Indians claimed their fourth championship in the final after they defeated Chennai Super Kings by a single run. David Warner, with 692 runs, became the competition’s highest run scorer and received the Orange Cap. Imran Tahir of Chennai Super Kings, with 26 wickets, became the competition’s highest wicket-taker and received the Purple Cap. The Kolkata Knight Riders player Shubman Gill received the Emerging Player of the tournament award, and Andre Russell won the Most Valuable Player award.
