Punjab Kings started its career as an IPL franchise in 2008, known as Kings XI Punjab. The team is a mixture of strong squad and star players but despite being a well-balanced team, the team has yet to win any titles. From 2009 to 2013, the team did not qualify for playoffs, but in 2014, Punjab had their best season. In 2014 the team was led by Glenn Maxwell and David Miller and thus reached the final but lost the fight with the Kolkata Knight Riders. Since then, the team has struggled with inconsistent performance and frequent changes of leaders. Punjab Kings have tried changing their captains several times, including Yuvraj Singh, Adam Gilchrist, George Bailey, R Ashwin, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, and Shikhar Dhawan. The 2023 and 2024 seasons were also difficult for the Punjab Kings, as the team finished outside the playoffs.
