Formerly known as Delhi Daredevils, this team was founded in 2008. The franchise was later rebranded as Delhi Capitals in 2018. It was decided by the co-owner and chairman Parth Jindal to change the name as he stated, “Delhi is the power center of the country, it is the capital, therefore the name Delhi Capitals”, was given by the co-owner Kiran Kumar Gandhi. He said the new name symbolizes Delhi’s identity and just like the city, we are aiming to be the center of all action going forward”. The team anthem was sung by Kailash Kher, known as “Khelo Front Foot Pe,” also known as “play aggressively”. Former India opening batsman and a local Delhi citizen, Virender Sehwag, was one of the star players of the Delhi Daredevils. He was also the captain of the side during the first two seasons of the IPL (Indian Premier League). The team currently has no IPL titles and was a runner-up in 2020 against the Mumbai Indians.
