IPL entered its seventh season in 2014. People also referred to it as the Pepsi IPL 2014 or IPL 7. The organizers held the tournament from April 16 to June 1, 2014, with eight teams participating, one fewer than in 2013 because the Pune Warriors India withdrew. The UAE hosted the opening ceremony on 15 April 2014. Manish Pandey received the man of the match award in the final when the Kolkata Knight Riders beat Kings XI Punjab by three wickets to claim the tournament. An average of 31,751 people attended the tournament.
Because the tournament coincided with the 2014 Indian general election, Indian Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde refused to offer security for the league, resulting in half of it taking place outside of India. Thus, India and the United Arab Emirates jointly hosted the tournament. The tournament then returned to India on May 2 after staging the initial 20 matches in the United Arab Emirates in three various stadiums in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.
The organizers conducted the player auction on February 12 and 13, 2014. The auction took place in Indian Rupees and not in US dollars, unlike the previous seasons.
