IPL 2010 was held from March 12 to April 25, 2010. It was also the first cricket tournament that streamed live on YouTube. In Indian cinemas, the last four matches of the tournament were screened in 3D. More than 200 million Indians are estimated to have viewed the tournament.

The Chennai Super Kings won the tournament by defeating the Mumbai Indians in the Mumbai final. The Mumbai India’s Sachin Tendulkar received the orange cap and player of the tournament, and the Deccan Charger’s Pragyan Ojha received the purple cap. The Fair Play award went to Chennai Super Kings, and Saurabh Tiwary earned the U-23 champion title of the tournament.

The organizers introduced five new venues for the third season of the IPL. Among them were Nagpur, Cuttack, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Dharamsala. The Deccan Chargers played their home matches in Nagpur, Cuttack, and Mumbai, whereas the Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab shared some of their home matches in Ahmedabad and Dharamsala, respectively. In addition, Hyderabad did not host any matches this season although it hosted all the Deccan’s home matches in 2008. This change occurred due to the possibility of instability caused by a Telangana state succession.

The tournament brought in ICL players during the 60-game event, which also featured a third-place playoff between the losing semi-finalists as a Champions League qualifying round. While Bangalore was set to host both semi-finals, Mumbai hosted them instead. The season finished five days before the World Twenty20 in the West Indies, with the final and third-place playoff matches played in Mumbai.
