Lucknow Super Giants History
IPL 2022: Lucknow Super Giants In IPL 2022, The team made their IPL debut in the tournament along with Gujarat Titans. Led by KL Rahul, the team announced its arrival by coming third in their maiden season. “If you look at the overseas players like (KL) Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Mark Wood or someone like Marcus Stoinis, we obviously had star attractions that could build a solid bridge.
Season Progression
- 2022: Qualified; 3rd place; eliminated by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator.
- 2023: Again finished 3rd; lost to Mumbai Indians.
- 2024: 5th place; misses playoffs by a hair.
- 2025: Hardest season yet – inconsistent performance all the way through, even with flashes of brilliance despite finishing 7th.
LSG had more than 4.6 million followers on social media by March 2025 which made them to be one of the top ten most popular franchises in India.
Lucknow Super Giants Highs
- Qualifying for the playoffs in their first two IPL seasons, an almost unheard-of feat for a new franchise.
- Powerful top-order spearheaded by KL Rahul, power hitters in Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran.
- Another one of my personal favorite genres are built around totals and LSG rolled out some of the biggest blanks in their history for 2025 including:
238/3 vs Kolkata Knight Riders
227/3 vs RCB
235/2 vs Gujarat Titans (by courtesy of Mitchell Marsh’s first IPL hundred) - The appointment of Carl Crowe as the spin consultant for IPL 2026 is a huge plus for their bowling unit.
Lucknow Super Giants Lows
- LSG has qualified for the playoffs several times but hasn’t gone beyond the Eliminator stage yet.
- Injuries to key players such as KL Rahul, Mark Wood and occasional dips in form have upset the balance.
- Their up and down season, which can be traced through all the 2025 season, cost them a couple matches.
- They were listed as coming in last place ever in their 2025 season.
Lucknow Super Giants Record Table 2022 – 2025
| Season | Matches Played | Wins | Losses | No Result | Final Standing | Top Run Scorer | Top Wicket Taker |
| 2022 | 15 | 9 | 6 | 0 | Playoffs (3rd) | KL Rahul (616) | Avesh Khan (18) |
| 2023 | 15 | 9 | 6 | 0 | Playoffs (3rd) | Marcus Stoinis (408) | Ravi Bishnoi (16) |
| 2024 | 14 | 7 | 7 | 0 | 5th | KL Rahul (505) | Naveen-ul-Haq (15) |
| 2025 | 14 | 6 | 8 | 0 | 7th | Mitchell Marsh (627) | Digvesh Singh (14) |
IPL 2026 – What’s New?
LSG already on job to rebuild for IPL 2026:
New Spin Coach Appointed
LSG has roped in Carl Crowe, an acclaimed T20 spin consultant globally for IPL 2026.
Leadership Review
Though KL Rahul remains the franchise face, there are murmurs of possible back-up or rotation at the helm due to fitness and form issues. Rishabh Pant was the laggard of LSG in late 2025 (he scored a fabulous hundred vs RCB).
Squad Rebalancing for 2026
Expect LSG to:
- Strengthen their spin attack
- Strengthen their middle order
- Rebuild their death-overs bowling unit
