  • South Africa and the West Indies played their initial One Day International match at the AMI Stadium, Christchurch. South Africa won the match by 64 runs. But West Indies defeated South Africa in the 1991-1992 Benson & Hedges World Cup series by winning all 3 matches.
  • On 18th April, 1992, West Indies and South Africa played their first Test match against each other at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. West Indies emerged victorious by 52 runs in the match. Curtly Ambrose won the Player of the Match award for the series after taking six wickets for the West Indies in the second innings and helping them win.
  • In the 1995-1996 Wills World Cup, 3rd Quarter Final, West Indies won by 19 runs in the match. The West Indies defeated South Africa with Brian Lara’s explosive 111 runs off 94 balls and Roger Harper’s solid bowling spell of 4/47. 
  • South Africa defeated all five of the subsequent matches in the 1998-1999 South Africa v West Indies series which is the first bilateral series after South Africa’s readmission to international cricket. In the last match of the series South Africa defeated West Inides by a total of 351 runs. 
  • West Indies chose to bat first in the exciting match at the 2003 ICC World Cup, setting South Africa a target of 279 runs. Brian Lara scored 116 runs off 134 balls to lead the innings. In reply, South Africa fell short by just 3 runs and were bowled out for 275 runs in 49 overs. 
  • South Africa defeated the West Indies 2-0 in their four-match Test Series in 2004–2005. With a standout performance from Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith, South Africa won 2 of the 4 matches, and 2 ended in a draw.

2005-2015

  • South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first in the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy and posted 258/8 in 50 overs. Chris Gayle, the opener for the West Indies, hit an undefeated 133 runs on 135 deliveries while chasing the score. The Windies chased the target in 44 overs with 6 wickets in hand.  
  • On 11th September, 2007 West Indies played against South Africa in the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 at Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. The West Indies, who batted first, got off to a fast start thanks to a century from Chris Gayle, but they eventually stumbled and managed to reach a respectable 205/6.  South Africa won the match by eight wickets after chasing the target in just 17 overs.
  • In the 2009-2010 West Indies vs South Africa Test series, South Africa won the first and third matches of the series against West Indies, while the second match ended in a draw. Johan Botha and Dale Steyn were instrumental with the ball, and West Indies yet again saw another disappointing chapter in the Test series. 
  • The 2013 ICC Champions Trophy was declared a tie between West Indies and South Africa. Rain caused South Africa’s innings to be reduced to 31 overs, and West Indies’ target was set at 191 from 26.1 overs. Colin Ingram was awarded Player of the Match for scoring 73 runs off 63 balls.

  • The Windies dominated the 2015–2016 Series, winning it 2-1. In the first match of the series, South Africa couldn’t stand in front of Sunil Narine’s powerful bowling, he took 6 wickets by giving just 27 runs in the match. In the second match, South Africa regained confidence and won by 139 runs with Imran Tahir’s 7(45), but their momentum faltered in the 3rd match again when they lost to West Indies by 100 runs in the match.
  • South Africa and the West Indies faced off in a five-match Twenty20 International series in 2020–2021.The Proteas showed dominance in the series with George Linde and Tabraiz Shamsi excelling as thier leading wicket taker. South Africa were the winner of the series by winning 3 out of 5 matches.
