Summer came, and with it came warm weather, long days, and plenty of outdoor time. Sounds great, huh? Well, so is good weather, but it also loads up on your body unevenly.

You lose more water, sweat faster, and dehydrate without realizing it. The solution to being healthy this summer? Being healthy and hydrated.

Why Hydration is Important?

Water gets your body moving. Water cools you down by reducing your body temperature, helps digest food, gives you energy, and smiles at you. Your body is operating overtime, cooling you down when it’s hot outside, so you need more water.

When you are thirsty, you might get dizzy, sleepy, or have headaches. Dry skin, muscle spasms, or lack of focus are some other indications of a fluid-low body. Consuming water prevents these symptoms and keeps you alert and feeling good all day long.

How Much Water Do You Need?

A good rule of thumb is to cut your body weight in half and consume that many ounces of water. Since you weigh 150 pounds, you need about 75 ounces of water a day. You’ll need more when you sweat, exercise, or are outside for an extended period of time.

Thirst is not always a guarantee. You can already be dehydrated to some extent when you feel thirsty. Check for dark yellow urine, dry mouth, or sleepiness. These are all definite signals that you need to rehydrate.

Simple Ways to Stay Hydrated

Start your day with a glass of water, it’s a little. It’s something that actually works. Keep a refillable bottle by your side and take a sip throughout the day. Try to see. If you need reminding, attempt to set targets, if you need to remind yourself on your phone, but others label the bottles so that achievements can be kept track of.

Even if you’re simply sitting at home watching a game, grilling outside, or betting on your favorite team at a sports book, it’s simple to get carried away with how much water you’re drinking. Heat and adrenaline can take over, so drink plenty of water throughout the day.

What to Avoid?

Some drinks dehydrate you, though. Too much coffee, tea, or soda depletes fluids. Beer, especially if you’re out in the sun, drains your energy and hydration level. Salty snacks or processed foods leave you parched without giving your body the fluids it needs.

When you are sweating and hot, attempt to drink water rather than sugary drinks. If you cannot resist taste, coconut water or natural fruit juice in moderation will be an acceptable alternative. Nothing, however, is better than fresh, plain water for proper hydration.
