The 15th Indian Premier League, or TATA IPL 2022, opened play on March 26 with a 10-team expansion. The organizers modified the format slightly with the introduction of the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants this season. The BCCI restored the 2011 format of the era when Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers Kerala participated in the league.
The IPL 2022 will feature seventy-four matches, including four playoffs, in 65 days at four stadiums in Pune and Mumbai.
The most successful IPL team occupied the bottom spot of the IPL 2022 standings, while Gujarat Titans was top.
The league stage matches took place in three venues in Mumbai and one in Pune. The initial schedule for the tournament was planned for 20 matches at Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, with 15 matches taking place at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and the MCA International Stadium in Pune. Each team was supposed to play three matches at Brabourne Stadium and the MCA Stadium, and four matches each at Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium.
Following a row with an umpire over a ball that the umpire did not call a no ball while officiating a game between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, the authorities suspended Pravin Amre for one game, while they fined Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur. In a bid to bring the game to a premature end in protest, Delhi Capitals captain Pant summoned his batsmen off the field.
